When Psalm 51 Became My Own Prayer

< 1 Mins Read | October 18, 2020

Some time ago, I remember acting sinfully. It wasn’t anything scandalous, but I was heartbroken and genuinely sorrow over my sin against God.

As I was praying to God, I didn’t feel I had adequate words to describe my sorrow and repentance.

So I remember opening Psalm 51 and reading it.

I took the prayer of David, a fallible man just like me, and made it my own.

His prayer of repentance helped me put in words everything I was feeling and wanted to say to my Father in Heaven.

Oh, it was such a sweet time of confession and repentance, and the Lord truly restored my heart.

Friend, if the Lord is convicting you of sin in your life, but you feel lost for words to express your sorrow to Him.

I’d encourage you to read Psalm 51 and make it your own.

“The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” – Psalm 145:8
